Kris Jefferson was born in Brooklyn New York, and grew up in Jamaica Queens, where many musicians resided. He began playing drums at the age of 12, then tried his hand at guitar, then eventually moving on to bass when he was 14. This was due mostly to hearing Stanley Clarke, then a few years later, Jaco Pastorious.
In the early 80's, Jaco introduced him to Manoel Monteiro and Ron DeFrancesco, where he learned Brazilian rhythms, which solidified his concept of grooving. Kris is a self taught musician with a long history in the New York City music scene, playing gigs and recording with many musicians in a wide variety of styles.
Over the years he has shared the stage or recorded with Curtis Salgado, Olu Dara, Hiram Bullock, Guy King, Aaron Comess, Phil Magallanes, Eric Schenkman, Delmar Brown, Michael Zentner, Keith Carlock, Popa Chubby, Alex Foster, Jerry Gonzalez, Liz McComb, Kirk Fletcher, William Galison, Guy King, Bill Simms, Lou Marini, Winston Grennan, Arnie Lawrence and many others. Kris has also appeared in videos of Eros Ramazotti, Stuttering John (Howard Stern) and Apollo 440.
